Changing, repurposing, and designing things ....being creative...being a maker.
Learning new skills. A student shared her own monogramed pillow design that she is in the process of "making." Pretty cool stitching. What have you made? What would like to make? A short and fun experiment...transform a liquid, raw egg into a squishy bouncy ball using vinegar, small jar, and time. We observed and recorded for 3 days. Something major happened. Do you want to try? Download the lab recording sheet and give it a try.
I bet you'll find many changes...some are subtle and some major. Does it really bounce? How far? How high? What will happen if you try different colored vinegars? Check out these kiddos working on decoding their student created letters.
They used their letter writing skills to write jokes to one another and then mailed them. Here's my joke: "Why is Peter Pan always flying?" "Because he Neverlands." What joke would you send? When did you start playing? I started about 3 or 4 years ago. I was at an Elton John Concert and told my mom I wanted to learn how to play piano. Why do you play an instrument? It is soothing and calming. It is relaxing for me. Do you recommend others learn? Yes! It makes you think. I was asked to use samples of creativity. I created a quick Movie showcasing many of you! Whatever I had on my phone was what I used. Why creativity you ask? Well that is a key. The need to continually adapt, modify, and change requires us to stay open-minded so that we can explore through innovative processes and develop unique products and ideas. Creativity affects society by inventing new ideas, theories, and concepts, that have the potential to change and impact the economy, industry, and social aspects of the world. New inventions can help us learn about the past, alter the present and visualize future life. Creativity is a necessity. By imagining something, new, it helps to envision and then further develop. “Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not.” Pablo Picasso Our first outing ...to a strawberry farm. We set off to preserve our bounty by canning our fruit. History of Canning Was it Nicolas Appert in 1790 or Luis Pasteur in 1864 that discovered the relationship between microorganisms and food spoilage? Is there chemistry in canning? What chemical change can you identify? What physical change do you see? Did we use a water bath or pressure while canning these strawberries? This chart provided critical information.
