A board game centered on learning about plants that heal and serve as food.
My two oldest boys played this game for countless hours while growing up. Joshua used the knowledge he gained to create lip balm after a nasty sunburn. We found this game hidden in the basement, pulled it out of storage, and set off on a path to seek out huckleberries. The creators of this game took a passion for healing and transformed it into learning tool for other. Have you ever thought about creating a board game? It doesn't have to be crazy challenging. It can be a work in process.... maybe something that you build upon. If you were to create a board game, what would design?

He's missing his camping pals but, Sam's trying to figure out how to use what he likes to do and turn it into something new to learn. What new hobby have you picked up? Do you have something you want to learn or do that isn't really school related? What is it? Many of you have heard me fuss about those chicks jumping and flying out of their crate over the course of the last few days. Yup, my dining room has been transformed. With limited supplies, we opted to order a kit to "put together" a new brooder for the quickly growing chicks as they await meeting the "girls" and their new coop. "How to" use appropriate tools and follow directions....essential and life long skills. P.S. The nameless chicks are still in search of an identity. Keep those names coming!
Why is pretzel dough different than other types of bread? We found that when you boil prior to baking the dough in a baking soda bath, the starches on the surface of the dough gelatinize (yup jello-ish) and form this soft crust. Once it bakes, it gets crunchy. (This process reminds me of when I made bagels at a bagel shop while one summer as a college student.) Do you want to try? Here's a simple pretzel recipe and video tutorial that uses only 9 ingredients and takes only 30 minutes. Delicious! Please share if you try it. 1/3 of the total batch of pretzels were topped with salt.
2/3 of the total batch of pretzels were topped with cinnamon sugar. Can you determine how many were in this batch? Which flavor profile would you prefer? Salty or sweet? Our first go at cleaning up the garden after 6 months of Fall and Winter neglect.
Even the wood planter Sam built last year needs serious work. We are researching different vegetables and herbs to plant and then we'll sketch out a diagram and create a plan. I wonder why some plants need different soil temperature and why does our research suggest planting during different months? Do you have any idea what we should plant in March, April, and May? We set up a schedule and Sam is trying to figure out a balance. While I work with students, parents, caregivers, and teachers Sam is learning how to make his lunch, bake chocolate chip cookies, and work independently. He's missing baseball, friends, and today he told me school. A little gaming is helping him connect with his friends.
What does your day look like? We are learning to adjust to our new way of communicating and learning.
We attended our P.L.C. today (Professional Learning Community). How are you connecting? One of my son's decided to bring home 3 more chicks to join our 3 hens.
Now the research begins....we need to find out what kind of chicks these are. If you figure it out, please share. What should we call them? Sam (my 13th year old 7th grader) and I worked on his schedule to set him up for success. This is what he came up with. I need to work on mine.
Do you like following a schedule? I am challenging myself to post a daily activity. I'll treat the post like a journal and keep myself accountable for my learning, teaching, communication, and collaboration so that I maintain a healthy state of mind. Ask me anything or post a comment. Here we go.....
I try to run at least 4 times a week. Do you have a journal? |
