While hiking in our woods, we came across a plant that had a spicy and aromatic scent when you snapped the bark - stem. With a little research, we found that this plant's remedies are controversial and date to the Woodland period. This plant's bark root is boiled and used to treat fevers, diarrhea, measles, and even scarlet fever. Native Americans were known to use the root for medicinal purposes. Some cultures used mashed leaves to treats insects bites and wounds. Boiling down the bark root creates a very bright pink tea like liquid. Can you guess what the plant is?
